Trail Racing in the Bay Area: January 2014

Trail running kicks ass!
Happy New Year!!! I've been thinking about New Year resolutions and goals for 2014. This year I hope to bring my running back up to where it was in late 2012 and early 2013. I was running quite a bit more mileage week to week and training with an intensity that  could not be kept up with. Now that life has begun to calm down a bit, I think I can get back at it with some goal oriented training.
The approaching new year starts off with some great trail runs to choose from to get started on those goals. Below is a list of the upcoming races in January of 2014, including a few road events that are specifically targeted at celebrating the New Year. If you are like the majority of people out there with health and fitness goals for 2014 then start your New Year off with a step in the right direction. Pick a race, sign up and start training. With a race on your calendar and all of the hope of a New Year in your heart you will start the year with a bang that will likely carry you a lot farther towards your goals than otherwise. I'll see you out there!!!

June trail races in the Bay Area

An explosion of races fall out of the sky in the month of June! Eleven "one off" events (events that are not part of a regular race companies schedule) and four events from Coastal Trail Runs help thicken the selection. ITR and TCTR are both holding 50 milers. Not to be out done PCTR is holding a 6 hour and a 12 hour event. Every distance imaginable is available including the odd ball 8k, 15k, 25k & 30k distances. The world famous Dipsea & Double Dipsea is taking place in June as it does every year. It really doesn't matter which side of the bay you live on, chances are that a race is being held in your neck of the woods this weekend. We have races as far flung as Vallejo & Brentwood to Santa Cruz and all points in between. If you cant find a race with a distance you want that is close to home in the month of June you are one tough customer to satisfy. Get out there and enjoy the trail season!

Upcoming trail races in the Bay Area for the weekend of 4/27 & 4/28

This weekend the vast majority of runners will probably be running the Big Sur Marathon. That road race is a major event that draws people from all over to run it. The Leona Divide ultra is taking place down south as well so that's going to draw the runners away from the Bay Area too. For those reasons I thought we wouldn't really have a lot of trail races to choose from but we do! Four great races are spread all over the Bay Area and every distance from 1.5mi to 50mi is available this weekend including the odd 18.8 mile race in Los Gatos. So, if by chance you aren't running one of the big name races, come on out and get a little dirt under your feet at one of these local races.

Upcoming trail races for the weekend of 4/20 & 4/21

With the weather giving us plenty of trail time lately I have been able to log many more trail miles than in months past. I'm really excited about racing on some of these trails as it has been several months since I have done a "local" trail event. I've decided on one so far (Horseshoe Lake in May!)and am quickly narrowing down my choices thereafter. If your not already running one of the big road races being held this weekend (Presidio 10),  then take a look at whats coming up this weekend to help fill up your race calendar.

Upcoming races for the weekend of 2/23 & 2/24

The weather has been nice lately and I've been able to get out on the trails a lot more lately. I think I'm getting a touch of spring fever with this lucky streak of great weather. I find myself getting excited about my upcoming trail races and then I start researching what races are coming up for this article and I get even more excited because great races are poppin up more and more as we cruise through the end of our winter. Three excellent choices for the weekend of 2/23 & 2/24 are coming up and between the three you have every distance choice from 5 mile to 50k and every ability level from the novice Vasona Lake 5 mile to the experienced Montara 50k.
