Running races of note for the weekend of 10/20 & 10/21

Many of you probably already have your weekend run plans made. Perhaps your running in one of the 3 races of note taking place in the Bay Area this weekend. I know I am!!!

  1. Quicksilver Challenge Half Marathon & 10K and 1 mile kid’s race - Quicksilver Running Club of San Jose California, also known as QRC, was established to promote physical well-being and friendships through running. Formerly known as Fleet Feet Running Club of San Jose, the club currently puts on two races in the historic Almaden-Quicksilver Park of San Jose, California. The Quicksilver 50 Mile/50k/25k race usually takes place within the first two weeks of May each year. It has become a favorite of Ultra-Runners from around the country because of the ideal terrain, its model training for the Western States 100 and the perfect weather conditions. In the first week of October every year, the Quicksilver Challenge Half Marathon/10k/5k affords the entrant a truly challenging course but with it, Santa Clara County’s most spectacular scenery.
  2. THE ROCKY RIDGE HALF MARATHON/10K/5K: THE Ultra Half Series Championship 2012! - Im pretty excited to be running this race this year. The race usually draws the best runners from around because it actually offers a cash prize. I know I dont have a prayer at finishing in the money but its fun to run against or with some of the best in the bay. For those running the Ultra Half Series Race they will be eligible for a Prize of 1st $1000, 2nd $500 & 3rd $250. Those runners are also eligible to win the prize money that the rest of us non-series running folks are after and the amounts are the same 1st $1000, 2nd $500 & 3rd $250. If you think about it, any series racers that take a top 3 place overall will be gauranteed 2 checks! The only way they get a single check is if they are a top 3 in the series race but not a top 3 overall. Whats the chances of that?
  3. The Kennedy Drive 8k - Not exactly a trail race but its a DSE event!!! The Dolphin South End Running Club puts on really great, low-key, dirt cheap races almost every week of the year. This run will set you back a whooping $5 and for that you get to run through the Golden Gate Park with some of the most accomplished and friendliest runners in the bay area. Start your Sunday off right this weekend and go tackle this 5 miler.
 See ya in the woods,

Jonathan
